Latest Update - AdaptCMS Lite & Pro available
AdaptCMS <img src="http://www.adaptcms.com/button.png">
After a while of development I think it is finally a good time to announce my upcoming project, a general CMS (usable with any type of website) written in PHP/MySQL named <b>AdaptCMS</b>. There is still much info that can't be revealed, such as a release date except that I can simply give an estimate of "Late June-July of this year" as well as price, however I can give an estimate too of between <b>$10-$30</b>.
First let me show some screen shots of the backend in action as well as the 5 different skins:
http://www.adaptcms.com/pics.html
The script itself is only around halfway done, the backend is about 85% done and progress on the frontend hasn't gone under way yet. As for some features, I don't want to reveal all the features but here are two of the best parts of AdaptCMS:
1. Full support system - What is already proving to be very strong in the script already is the improved support system in the CMS. There are various parts including the support system also seen in OneCMS and BlogPHP but in AdaptCMS you can also submit/view FAQ, help files and a unique feature called "S2S Messages" (<b>S</b>cript <b>2 S</b>ite <b>Messages</b>) where people can directly message me at adaptcms.com right from inside the script and vice-versa. Also an advanced error reporting system means that any error in the backend area will be submitted automatically to myself with no work in your part, 100% automatic.
2. Flexbility - The reason for making AdaptCMS is to make it so that any website can run it - Movie site, gaming website, a blog site, whatever. In AdaptCMS there is a "sections" area where you can manage sections/sub-sections and relate each other. For example you could add a section called "Games" (for a game site) and then sub-sections "Reviews, Previews" and "News". Then when adding the "Games" section you would click to relate it to reviews, news and previews. What does this do? For one if you add a game and review with a similair title they are automatically related and are automatically linked together which also means that in templates you can use tags from each other. (ex. in reviews you could put tags such as {games-esrb} and this is all automatic) Also in AdaptCMS the layout system is even better, simply putting a {content} tag where content goes and all the other HTML/PHP of your layout takes just seconds to do and makes integration by yourself easier than ever.
That is just two parts of the mainy exciting features in AdaptCMS. Again let me emphasize that a release date is not known but I am guessing around Late June to July as well AdaptCMS will be the first script since OneCMS v1 that is not free (from Insane Visions), right now I would say between $10-$30, if I had to say right now I would say $20 or $25 (per domain). Since it will cost the script will not be open source, the frontend and db info file will be open of course but everything else will be encrypted to protect myself.
Lastly the extended release date is also because <b>adaptcms.com</b> will receive much work, not quite like the OneCMS and BlogPHP websites. The website when launched will feature a support forum for license owners, client area, fully-usable demo, testimonials, site list, support, services, Buy Now/Pre-Order now page and pre-made templates. All this will be available not too long from now. Expect another major update in around a few weeks when the site will be partially launched and more info will be revealed. Thanks! (suggestions, comments, questions, etc. welcome of course)

Looking good Reds. Perhaps you could make different packages for it? Maybe users could download premade video game backends, or blog backends. If you understand what I mean.

Ah jeeze I knew I forgot something. I forgot to mention that when the site launches (adaptcms.com) in the services area you will be able to buy such things as integration, service where we install the script for you and the best is "packs". These packs will be cheap, around $5 and will likely have a sale at release (get one for free) which sets up default sections, custom fields, pages and such so you don't have to setup various sections, templates and such. Nothing is for certain but I would expect a movie, blog and video game pack for starters. neeto. nice job! i think this looks better then oneCMS. it meets alot of my websites demand.
Thanks.

I've wanted a CMS like this for a while. I'm really looking forward to it!
Thanks. ZeroCool wrote:I'll most likely buy it after I see a demo, but I needa know, will it have: auto-thumbnailing for gallery images wysiwyg editor for all article/page creation pages user permissions so i can have staff that can only add articles etc
Auto-Thumbnailing = I'll put it in
WYSIWYG editor = Yes, already in, infact
User permissions = Yes, actually that is what I will be working on shortly. it will have full permissions by user groups. So say you have a user level called "Admin" with value "1" (just used for admin access), you will also be able to set permissions (add/edit/delete) for each section as well as modules such as polls, pages and all else.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just wanted to update people on progress for the script, I've made huge progress today and yesterday. (stayed up to 5:30 AM to finish the permissions )
For one the backend is almost completely done. All I have left for that is the error reporting system and the main admin page. (any suggestions? maybe the most active articles, latest users and latest poll?) Then I will start working on the main site of adaptcms.com itself and of course the frontend, keeping the date the same right now.
Specifically a large feature, I got the permissions done and without totally boasting, they are pretty sweet I think:
http://www.adaptcms.com/pics/adaptcms6.png
For example a user signs up and becomes a staff member, you edit the user to change him from a "Member" to "Staff" where you have assigned already letting "Staff" pretty much only access articles which brings up a unique aspect of permissions, you can only allow a user level to say, add "news" but not edit or delete. Doing this will allow them to add and only edit/delete there own content.
Also the licensing system is done. Without going into details, it is extremely secure and allows me to ensure only buyers of the script will run it, if it finds the license is invalid in any way it will stop the script and e-mail me immediately.
Anyways just wanted to update everyone, next up (aside from the last two admin parts left) will be the site itself. If you would like to see the admin panel in action send me a PM. Thanks.

I for one hope that you will not put this in to your AdaptCMS. The emailing you part is great, the disabling of a site is never a good option. Cigmas does this and I remember 2 seperate incidents that shut down all sites for a day or so.
His licencing server was taken off the net for a day through no fault of his own, taking all sites with it. This is actually the main reason that Cigmas was never used for any of my live sites.
If someone is buying a script to run a site that may eventually start earning income, their site ceasing to function could land you in legal trouble.
anyways, just my 2 cents.
The cms looks great so far, good job.

Although I thank you and share your concern (I am looking into possible solutions at the moment, possibly hosting it at a different location) I have to both weigh the consiciences of possible downtime, which I haven't had for ages and to compare, having an encrypted script that does not validate the license would be pointless, if I did that I might as well make it open source since just one bad buyer could make it into thousands of people's hand with ease.
Though I have doubts about legal issues, it will be clearly written that any issues that may occur from the script are not our responsibility.
I will look into this and as said, look into a solution to minimize risk of this but considering the excellent service of my host for the past 6 or so months I have been with them, I don't think anyone will need to worry about that. Thank you.

It's looking great Reds. I can't wait till completion, I will definately purchase the script to support you.
I love CMS's, they make my life easier when I create a clan site or similar knowing that I will have to tutor the person(s) I'm creating for how, to administer it.
AdaptCMS is looking great, keep up the good work
In the part of this universe that we know there is great injustice, and often the good suffer, and often the wicked prosper, and one hardly knows which of those is the more annoying.

Actually I just thought of a possible middle-ground solution the problem you mentioned Dasme.
I could only put the validation code in the admin file. I am still not sure about this but it would be excellent for the user because the frontend would still work 100% but not being able to add anything into the admin area would be pointless for someone trying to use it illegally.
Also, although you liked the e-mail part I thought of it first making sure the server is up. If it's not it will not send the e-mail but will block access to the admin, if it is up then obviously it will do its deed.
What do you think Dasme? (as well as others of course)

The picture page appears to be down at the moment.
As for the solution, I think it's worth it.. It's not like you will get downtime 24/7, maybe once ever 8 months not even you know? Won't hurt any site to not add a single news update for an hour or two... just make sure you state that in the TOS.
Nice work reds. Ill probably get my hands on this asap.

Ok I have finished the licensing as well as the error reporting so the only admin area left is the main admin page which I need people's feedback on. Normally I wouldn't ask but considering the amount of times it will be seen, it is an important page.
Some ideas I had was just simply listing the articles and the "check version" part. Or possibly to list the most active articles, latest poll (if there is one), some stats, latest articles or a combination of them. What do you guys think?

Glad you like it. The backend is now finished, totally, excluding bug checking and such. I do have one surprise for when the script releases, there is one unique feature on the main admin page I think many of you will like.
Now onto working on the site itself.

I'm curious as to how you are doing S2S Messaging. How are you transfering the data between the servers and where is the data stored? What are you doing to secure the data transfer?

Messages are stored on my database (when clicking to bring up the s2s messaging it is bringing up a page from adaptcms.com). No sensitive information is being passed through either. (no license #, passwords or anything).
As for an update for everyone, the site is actually almost finished. The most time-consuming stuff such as the forums are not finished (but should be soon) as well as of course the demo. The site will be up sometime this week, possibly today (later on) or thursday.
Also I am ready to announce the price of the script, which will be <b>$20/domain</b> when released. It may or may not be a sale price. (another words it could go up after a few weeks, but at worse up $5-$10)
